As Larry says you're purposely violating the TOS you signed with Verizon not
to run any servers on the residential FIOS account. If you're indeed a valid
business you should get a business class account so you don't have to play
the kind of games you're doing. You also mention using the unsupported hack
that allows you to collect POP mail with the SBS POP connector at less than
15 min. intervals which may eventually "bite" you if you have a surge in the
volume of incoming POP mail or its size.

Yes, it really is all about the cake!!!
I've been sucessful in getting this to work using the pop3 connector
and my hosted pop3 mailboxes. As of this afternoon it's all been
working just peachy.
This method removes the problem of Dynamic ip addressing since my
domain is hosted out on a static IP address and we "request" our email
every 5 minutes (registery hack on pop3 connector), and immediatly on
send. If my site IP changes, no harm since we request/send our mail
from inside. No links are broken. If I was smarthosting, I'd be
waiting for the day that our IP changed, and it has twice ONT lockups
on Verizon's side. Don't have to worry about that any more. Although
I do use DynDNS for our VPN configurations. Sucks messing with
laptops every time Verizon screws up.
We use port 2525 so there are no banning issues. Not to say never, but
like you said, who's going to be watching my piddly little traffic
when there's bigger fish to fry.
My local mail (in office) gets delivered right on the server, user to
user because exchange recognizes local users and doesn't send the mail
out to the pop3 accounts. This is one of the things I wanted (cake),
because prior to this in our OE/ISP arrangement sending an e-mail
across the office went to the ISP and back.
Calendaring and scheduling is now possible which was another of my
goals. If I can just get the secretary to put down the darned paper
calendar and get with the program. CAKE!!!
AND, if the entire thing were to go kafluie (server, computers,
building), we'd still have access to our email via the hosted webmail
that is provided on the pop3 accounts. So it's a disaster recovery
win as well. All-be-it, no fancy address books and bells and
whistles. More Cake...
Also, if I decide to scrap Verizon, I'm ISP ignostic at this point
since my mail is held outside. Is anyone getting the idea about the
cake...
I see these things as wins, I got it to work, I'm testing it this week
to try and find addressing flaws and then on to learn more about
Outlook. Lots there to understand coming from OE.
So yes, it is about the cake, I'm just looking for the bad eggs that
might be in the cake. Keep em coming.
