did you check the windows firewall on the vista machines to make sure pptp is being passed?

My other question would be...for the users that are connecting remotely...do they have desktop machines at the office??

Hi again!
I have now tried to connect to the VPN connection from an XP Professional
Installation that was hosted on my Windows Vista Business Computer. The XP
Pro installation was not joined to the domain but the issue that I have
described before did not occur when I connected from the XP Machine. Since
the XP machine was not joined to the domain, I had to type
\\192.168.14.2\[Share name] instead of \\[Server name]\[Share name] but since
I have tried this on my Vista machines as well, I reckon this as a Vista
issue.

Do you have any ideas about what to do in this situation? Are there any
available hotfixes for SBS2003R2 or is changing the IP range back to
192.168.12.2 perhaps an option?

Thank you so much for your help and time.

Yours
Richard J, Parnasso

Yes, Cris, the internal IP range changed when I moved it. Before I had the IP
range 192.168.12.3 - 192.168.12.150

Now, when doing the moving, I changed the internal IP range to 192.168.14.3
- 192.168.14.254.

Just before I got the notification about your post, I actually got connected
to the server and could browse the contents of the folders. However, to do a
synchronisation of the offline folders that I have in my Vista BUsiness
notebook was impossible. Neither could I do basic browsing from my Vista
Ultimate x64-computer that is also hooked to the same LAN and is having a
separate VPN PPTP tunnel to the server.

What do you suggest I do?

The setup with a firewall change has been carried through and I have now
tested to connect to the remote network with having the port 1723 opened in
the client side Vista Ultimate firewall. The result remains the same. I have
tried to access the following UNCs:

\\[server name]

\\[FQDN of server]

\\[server name]\[server share]

\\[server ip address on LAN]

All show me the same result - not able to reach the share. The error code
was 0x80070035 "The network path can not be found". I have changed the VPN
PPTP connection to have a static DNS entry for the IP-address of the remote
server, as well as the WINS-server entry. I have changed the settings NetBIOS
over TCP/IP to be activated for both the LAN connection and the
PPTP-connection, but with no change.

I hope to be able to resolve this issue asap, as my users are experiencing
the same problem.
