Re: Erroneous Printing errors in event log

Thanks Cliff. I am going to ignore it for the time being. I will correct it the next time I have to touch all computers.

As long as the printer's share name is correct and the drivers support point-and-print, it doesn't even have to be the same driver. That actually sounds like a bad driver to me, so there isn't a good way to resolve it without redoing the printer.

Just as an aside, there are plenty of documented vbscripts to help with remapping printers if something does go awry. :)

I have a sbs 2003 premium that has the following error in the Performance Report; "The server failed to complete 18156.000000. print jobs. This error commonly occurs when the printer runs out of paper or becomes jammed. If this happens, clear the problem at the printer, and then restart the print job. You can disable this alert or change its threshold by using the Change Alert Notifications task in the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad."

By looking in the Health Monitor, I am able to tell which printer is generating the errors. The printer identified to be generating the errors is actually working perfectly OK. I am assuming there is some corruption somewhere in the printer's performance counters. I would try to remove and reinstall the printer, but it is shared to about 20 users and that I am afraid that I would have to remap all those users individually. I have tried to reinstall SBS2003 print server printers before being careful to duplicate the printer exactly including share name, display name, driver, etc. but could never get the printer to reconnect to the users without remapping the printer at the client. Is there another way to fix the erroneous error reporting?
