You can use the CD and install the R2 technologies which will add the WSUS 2.0 component in the management console. After that you can upgrade to WSUS 3.0.
The GUI for WSUS 3.0 is more user friendly that the one used by WSUS 2.0 and personally I don't see the need of using the WSUS 2.0 component that is integrated into the Server Management Console. You can set it up to send you daily emails for the status of all the updates.

How is the best way of installing WSUS 2.0 back onto the server. I removed
due to issues with WSUS and reinstall WSUS version 3 though I could not view
it via the management console so have removed WSUS version 3 also.
