Re: is RWW installed and working

Larry,
Today I changed the configuration on our Covad router to open port 443.
Once I did this, I was able to access the RWW Login Screen from my remote
browser. After logging in, I was able to select Connect to Server Desktops.
When I do this, I'm presented with a list of servers but when I click on the
one I want to connect to, I get an error message that states "The client
could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be
enable or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections..."
Is there something I need to update on the server side to allow a TS
session? currently, I am able to VPN in and then create a TS session to all
servers. So why will it not allow me to do so via RWW?
Sorry for asking this question. I haven't gone to Wayne's site yet. That is
my next "to-do" item after this.

If, when you run the CEICW you put that in as the certificate, and if
there is a public DNS entry for that name, then yes.

Did you try the link I gave you for Wayne's site?

btw, you can use the cert generated by your SBS while in the CEICW, or you
can specify a cert that you purchase from a third party.

I'll check on what ports are open.

Once the appropriate ports are open, do I have the remote client use
our static IP address in their browser or do they use the
www.companyname.com address that is currently use for Email only? The
company domain name is located at RCN.net. I believe that RCN then
forwards (the DNS points to) our static IP address (we have a DSL connect
with a static IP address from Covad). So, does this mean I can have the
remote clients use the https://www.companyname.com/remote syntax in their
local web browser to access the RWW when the correct port are open?

Thanks for the info. I tried using https://ip-address/remote from my
laptop at home and nothing happened. I get the 'timed out' page.

If I VPN into my server, then start a Terminal Service session to
log into the server, I can then open up IE and type in
https://10.0.0.2/remote and get the logon page for RWW.

We are running Exchange server on this SBS server. the email address
(www.companyname.com) is hosted by an ISP and the email is forwarded to
our static IP address which is assign to our server as part of the
External NIC card (we are setup with two NICs in the server).

What am I missing? What do I need to do or setup so I can directly
access RWW from my laptop at home with using the VPN/TS procedure?

Again, thanks for taking the time to help out. I really do appreciate

If you want to see what one looks like,

which brings me to the second point. When you run the CEICW it asks
for the fqdn for the certificate for the server. If this has been
done, don't change anything unless you are certain of the
consequences.

There must be a public DNS record that points to the name that is used
here.

If it has never been done, you can use the Public ip address of your
network until you get a DNS record for that address that your users
can type. The reason we see https://mail.xxxxxx is because if you are
receiving mail at your SBS server, there is probably a DNS record for
that already.

And, last point, you can get rid of the security warning by clicking
on the pink certificate warning part of the browsers address bar and
accepting the cert on your local system.

All,
I'm new to SBS 2003 RWW. Can someone point me in the right
direction as to how I can tell if RWW is properly installed in my
SBS2003 environment? Also, when SBS was installed the consulting
company named our server as follows: servername.local

We do have a static IP address used in a 2 NIC environment.
Our website (companyname.com) is hosted on a ISP's server
(godaddy.com)

So, if RWW is truely installed in our SBS environment, how would I
access this?
