Security: VPN or RWW

Greetings,

I was having a discussion this morning with a colleague and it has me
pondering the security about VPN or RWW.

Scenario 1: A remote worker attaches to the network via VPN and then uses
MSTSC to terminal into their desktop at work.

Scenario 2: A remote worker uses RWW to attach to their PC at work.

The only advantage of RWW would be the ability to close Terminal Services
(3389) at the router.
Besides that would one be more secure than the other?
