Re: Setting up a VPN

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

OK, I know you won't probably believe this but VPN wizard shouldn't break
connection.
(I say Shouldn't)

Who is the DHCP on this network? (The SBS I hope)
and on the Scanner look at DNS IP and Wins server designation.

As a test Login to a PC in Machine Mode (NON DOMAIN)
and see if you can Map a drive to the SBS box with the Credentials used for
the scanner
If this works, and you can read/write files in that directory. then the SBS
is fine.
And it's probably the Scanner not finding the SBS for some reason, or
configuration of the scanner.

If you can't connect with a PC outside the domain Routing and Remote Access
might be messed up.
Is RRA Running?

And just as a thought, have you changed the IP of the SBS box lately?

Hi,

some more information - we have a SBS 2003 and 2 internal scanners on
the LAN. Everything was working correctly.
I was then asked to set up VPN access for users to log in externally.
I proceeded to run the Routing and Remote Access wizard in Server
Management>Computer Management>services and Applications>routing and
remote access. I also ran the Configure Remote Access wizard from
Server Management>Internet and Email>Configure Remote Access. Since
running these two wizards, both scanners can no longer scan files to
the Share that has been setup for the scanners to scan to (everything
was working correctly before i ran the two wizards).

I then proceeded to retun the server to its original setup by running
the two wizards again - only this time to disable the VPN (remote
access) service.

Both scanners still do not scan to the scanners' share folder. 1
scanner states a error code 'Unable to log in via CIFS, CIFS fail to
connect'. The other scanner states an error code to 'Unable to log
into server during file forwarding - check cable connection to server,
check server IP address'. So it seems to me that there is an issue
with CIFS connections.

From the server i can ping both scanners, and i can access both
scanners web based configuration pages. The permissions of the shared
'Scan Folder' indicate both scanners should be able to access the
folder.

I have not altered any other settings on the server other than the 2
remote access wizards. So it must be one of these wizards that have
altered a setting that disallows the scanners to log in to the
server.
