Hello Henrik
Thank you for the continued help.
Regarding R2, I was waiting to see if SBS2008 included ISA or not before
deciding whether to pay for this intermedate upgrade.
Anyway, tried reinstalling WSUS 3 with limited success. Installed via RWW
rather than directly on the server and got kicked out towards the end of
installation, I guess IIS restarted.
Ran setup again to install administrative console.
Console is now there but will not allow me to connect to server. Cannot
uninstall WSUS and try reinstalling directly on server as when I try and
remove it via control panel it says "The version of WSUS installed is
incompatible with this version. You should use add/remove programs to
uninstall". I get error code 0x80041453 in the log.
I am guessing that the server name I should be connecting to is the server
name for the physical box (same as ISA server name, Exchange server name,
etc).
I think I may have made things worse.

I actually on ly see one alternativ if you want this do work in a confident
way, that is to reinstall WSUS.
Some would say to restore from beckup but a reinstall is done within hours
so its easier.
Use these documents were appropriate.
These documents applies on reinstalling WSUS on SBS2003 (incl R2)
When you install R2, you can upgrade the WSUS 2.0 component to the 3.0
version or skip the 2.0 installation completely and just download and
install 3.0 directly.
If you are manually installing the WSUS 3.0 SP1 product on Windows Small
Business Server 2003, follow the instructions in Installing Windows Server
Update Services 3.0 on Windows Small Business Server 2003.

Hello Henrik
Thanks for the reply.
Logged on as admin, as before. Still no joy.
Nothing in recycle bin.
Cannot create shortcut to that target, it does not exist.
If I use Windows Explorer, I can find the Update Services folder, but no
administrationsnapin folder, just log files, setup and web services. No
wsus.msc in any of those.
Any more suggestions?

Have you check ypur recycle bin?
Are you logged on as another user then ordinary?
Try to create a shortcut to the following target.
"C:\Program Files\Update Services\administrationsnapin\wsus.msc"

is
the
nub of my problem.

Hello All
I have been happily running WSUS3.0 on SBS 2003 R1 for a while now,
everything working fine.
Recent update (maybe to 3.1?) and WSUS seems to have disappeared.
No longer a link within administrative tools, no option of adding
in to
MMC.
If I try and navigate to http://server:8530/wsusadmin, no joy
either.
Any pointers?
Best Regards
Ashley
