Re: Setup Server to manage Domain mail ...

Hello John,

Thank you for your update.

For your concern, I will answer them one by one.

1. At E-mail Delivery Method page of CEICW, we should use the option "Use
DNS to route e-mail". The option means the Exchange will send outbound
emails by itself, but not thru smarthost. You have newdomain for the email,
that means you need to resolve the newdomain MX record to your public IP,
and your public IP PTR record resolve to your newdomain. Then, if the email
receiver server need to check PTR record of your emails, you will pass the
check.

Note: For the MX and PTR records settings, you need to contact your public
domain ISP.

2. At E-mail Retrieval Method page of CEICW, we select email inbound
method. We also need to tick the "Use Exchange" option, and select "E-mail
is delivered directly to my server" option. The options mean the email to
your newdomain will directly deliver to Exchange. Meanwhile, forward TCP
port 25 from the router to SBS.

3. At E-mail Domain Name page of CEICW, you need to input your newdomain
name. The wizard will not delete the olddomain from the recipient policies.
So, it will not affect your POP3 connector.

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Reading through the responses so far I'm guessing I didn't specify my
| question very well.............
|
| We have SBS 2003 R2 Premium. Exchange is installed and runs fine.
|
| There are a number of users who have local e-mail addresses.
|
| They also have e-mail addresses on an external domain which I'll call
| olddomain for now.
|
| Olddomain has POP3 mailboxes held externally, and the e-mails are
| downloaded to Exchange by the POP3 Connector
|
| Outgoing external e-mail goes out via our ISP's SMTP server.
|
| Because we only have 20 users on the server, and the olddomain has
| nearly 200 mailboxes, we are looking to migrate selected users a new
| domain (which we have bought, and will call newdomain!).
|
| I would like to setup Exchange to process any e-mails addressed to
| existing users @newdomain.
|
| I've looked through CEICW and am not clear on how I should answer the
| following questions....
|
| 1) Should we be changing to "Use DNS to route e-mail"? We currently
| have it set to forward to our IPS's SMTP server.... (Ancillary
| question: Do we need to have an SMTP server somewhere relating to our
| newdomain?)
|
| 2) At present we only have "Use the connector for POP3 mailboxes"
| checked. Should we now check the "Use Exchange ...." option? If so,
| what sub-settings should we have?
|
| 3) On the screen that asks for our E-Mail Domain Name we currently
| have entered "olddomain". I assume we change this to "newdomain" BUT
| we dont want to lose the setting for olddomain addresses ... not yet,
| anyway....
|
| TIA,
|
| JohnK
