Re: activesync issue

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to perform
activesync with Exchange 2003 on SBS. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

1. The CEICW will configure the ISA to publish the activesync. Please run
the CEICW as following steps:

Detailed steps for your reference:

a. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
Standard Management\To Do List.

b. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.

c. When navigating to the Firewall page, select "Enable firewall" and click
Next.

d. On the "Services Configuration" page, select all the items and then
click Next.

e. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, make sure "Allow access to the
entire Web site from the Internet" is selected. If you select "Allow access
to only the following Web site services from the Internet", make sure all
items in the list are selected. Click Next.

f. On the "Web Server Certificate" page, choose to create a new Web server
certificate and then type the public domain name (your public DNS name)
that you will use to access OWA and RWW (for example, if your public domain
name that you use to access the sites is www.xyz.com, you should type
www.xyz.com as the new certificate name).

g. Go through the remaining steps.

2. Install the new certificate which created in above step on mobile device:

a. On the SBS server, click 'Start->'Run'. Input 'mmc' and press Enter.

b. In the MMC console, click 'File'->'Add/Remove Snap-in'. In the window,
click 'Add' button. Select 'Certificates' and then click 'Add'.
Select 'Computer account'-->'Next'-->'Local computer'-->'Finish'. Click
'Close' in the Add standalone Snap-in dialog box and click 'OK' in the
Add/Remove snap-in dialog box. You will see 'Certificates' under the
console root. Expand it and navigate to 'Trusted Root Certificate
Authorities\'Certificates' folder.

c. Right-click the certificate which is created for the SBS server.
Choose 'All Tasks'->'Export'. Export the certificate to a .cer file.

d. Copy the .cer file to a workstation which is connecting with the mobile
device. Then, go to the workstation and copy the .cer file to the mobile
device. (You can copy the file to the \storage folder.) On the mobile
device, open Explorer program. Find the .cer file and press the button. The
certificate will be added to the root certificate library of the mobile
device.

e. Restart the mobile device. Try to perform the Server ActiveSync again.
What's the result?

NOTE: Some mobile device vendor could put restrictions to the certificate
configuration. As a result, you may not be able to add new CA certificate
to the mobile device. Thank you for your understanding!

You can also refer to the following document to add the new SBS server
certificate to the mobile device:

Deploying Windows Mobile 5.0 with Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8BE70D72-1E5A-4128-
A30C-DAFEEB43544D&displaylang=en

3. The issue may happen when the default website on your server had been
redirected to a local URL. The monitoring done by ASP.NET cannot handle
this local URL, and thus return the OMA application error. If it is the
case in your site, please reset Default Web Site to default folder
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot.

If the issue persists after steps above, please continue with next step.

4. This problem may occur after you install Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server. More info
here:

You receive a "Page not found" error message when you use Outlook Web
Access (OWA) to browse the Exchange Server 2003 client after you install
Windows SharePoint Services
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;823265

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. What detail error do you get on the mobile device?

2. Gather MPS network report on SBS:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. Gather IIS log:

a. Open IIS snap-in.

b. Right click Default Web Site and click Properties.

c. Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply.

d. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to a
backup location.

e. Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK.

f. Run IISReset command.

g. Reproduce the problem and send the log file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.

4. Gather IIS Metabase:

1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en

2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)

3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".

4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.

5) Send the file and the password to v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
