Re: OT: Value of Technet Plus Subscription

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I use it as an end-user admin. More and more of the content is available online. I've always maintained the subscription because I find it easier to search than online (although much as I hate to say it, Google searches support.microsoft.com pretty well). And, because I have the content available in a worst case scenario such as server down or Internet down, or on my laptop when there's no Internet connection available. I must admit that most of these considerations have not come up much recently, and I find myself using online more and the DVDs less.

I have a test server running the TechNet non-expiring Windows Server, and I have used some of the trial versions of things like OneNote and Groove when evaluating products. There are separate (expiring) trial versions available for some of that stuff even without TechNet, though.

Thanks for your input. Sounds like it'd be good in a IT firm or for a SBS Specialist or Consultant. But not necessarily for an SMB admin.

There is no non-profit Technet pricing. You do get two support calls
to Microsoft which you would use anyway so it would be a wash or
better. But it might plant more enterprise ideas in your head which
may break SBS. ;-)

While I've been administering our SBS 2003 Premium box and client PCs and

whether a subscription to this service would be helpful, or overkill, for a
guy like me - 2 servers, 12 PC's, 5 laptops, and 8 wireless access points.
I work for a non-profit, so can probably get non-profit pricing.

TIA,
