RE: HDD failure! Mirror boots ok except WSUS - Re-installation is

Hi Terence,

thanks for your reply!
I tried all of your suggestions but unfortunately still can't install WSUS 2
on SBS.

The steps I followed this time are:
1. Downloaded the Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK, from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A55B6B43-E24F-4EA3-A93E-40C0EC4F68E5&displaylang=en

From the same command prompt window I executed:
2. MSIZAP T {A0D46DC6-8950-451A-8990-53C86E17666E}
3. sc delete wsusservice
4. MSIZAP T {2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D}
5. aspnet_regiis -i (it couldn’t be found on path, so I used the
“C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe” file,
passing the parameter “–i").
6. iisreset (from the same path as described in step 5).
7. Installed the WSUS 2.0 sp1 (downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9e89e4ef-00a8-4193-8997-fe4e92215a57&DisplayLang=en )

I got the same results as before:

i. A msg box appears with title "Microsoft Windows Server update Services
Service Pack 1", prompt "A network error occured while attempting to read
from the file: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\SqlRun03.msi" and the OK button.
ii. Pressing the OK button the Setup process is Rolling back. The status in
the
setup window displays the message "Removing WMSDE" and the blue progress bar
is showing the rolling back action.
iii. At the end, the setup window displays the text "Microsoft Windows Server
Update Services could not create the database. For more information, see the
Setup log "C:\Program Files\Update
Services\LogFiles\WSUSSetup_080331_1135.log"." (and the FINISH button).

As mentioned above (step i), it has something to do with the file
“C:\WINDOWS\Installer\SqlRun03.msi”. I verified that this file doesn’t exist
on this folder. Maybe I should put this file in there (if so, where can I
find it)???

I'd like to mention that after executing all these commands, I'm having
problem with the intranet's site. The http://companyweb internal SBS site is
not working anymore and we can't vew our faxes etc...
How these commands affected the companyweb?

It seems that the situation is going worse and I don't know how to manage it..

Please advise.

Thanks in advance,
John

PS: And all this is happening because of my first wrong soft-mirror setup...
I should mirror the d: drive also (which contained the WSUS folder) and we
wouldn't be here writing all this..)...........

Hello John,

Thank you for your update.

1. I want to confirm that: We need to run MSIZAP T
{A0D46DC6-8950-451A-8990-53C86E17666E} at the step #4. The
{2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D} is for WSS 3.0, we need to change it.

2. Please try to download the MSIZAP from windows 2003 SDK,

3. You can try to install the WSUS 2.0 sp1 on SBS:

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!
