Outlook crashes when gateway is offline
Hi,
One of our customers has SBS 2003 R2 premium running Exchange 2003
SP2. All the mail clients on the network are Outlook 2007. The network
topography is as follows:
Terminals - Switch - Gateway - Internet
|
Server
Recently, when sending emails, the user has experienced Outlook
crashing. The crash is a complete lockout and can only be remedied by
ending the process. On investigation, we discovered that Outlook was
crashing only when the user was sending an email AND the internet
connection was offline.
It our experience, when the gateway is unavailable, Exchange should
queue the email and retry every x periods. This doesn't seem to
happen, and when the internet connection is down, the email doesn't
enter the queue in Exchange. The outlook client just crashes.
There is nothing in the event logs on the server or the terminals to
suggest there is a problem.
Can anybody shed some light on this? Every other SBS customer we have
uses Outlook 2003 and this issue has never arisen elsewhere to our
knowledge.
Many thanks,
Matt
