RE: HDD failure! Mirror boots ok except WSUS - Re-installation is

Terence in the Add/Remove Programms list I see the "Windows Small Business
Server 2003", but it isn't "R2" as you wrote.

Should I uninstall it, or not?

Sorry for asking this, but I'm afraid to do something wrong.

Thanks for your help!
John

Hello John,

Thank you for posting here. Let's also thank Allan for the input.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to reinstall
WSUS 2.0 on SBS after the disk failure. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

I. Please refer to the following steps to reinstall the WSUS from your SBS
Server:

a. Click Control Panel> Click Add or Remove Programs.
b. Click Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2
c. Click Remove.

Notes: These steps just remove WSUS and can't remove any other component in
your Server.

d. Reinstall WSUS from your SBS R2 Technology CD 6.
e. After you reinstall WSUS, please configure it back and see if the
problem persists.

II. If you still get the error, let us try to uninstall WSUS by using
MSIZAP.exe which is included in Windows Installer CleanUp Utility or
Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK. To download MSIZAP.exe, refer to the
following MS KB article:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;es-es;290301
OR
To obtain the Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK, visit the following
Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A55B6B43-E24F-4EA3-
A93E-40C0EC4F68E5&displaylang=en

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility or SDK to obtain MSIZAP
2. From a command prompt, type:

For WSUS 2.0: MSIZAP T { A0D46DC6-8950-451A-8990-53C86E17666E}
Or
For WSUS 3.0: MSIZAP T {2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D}

3. From a command prompt, type: sc delete wsusservice
4. Again, From a command prompt, type: MSIZAP T
{2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D}
5. From a command prompt, type: aspnet_regiis -i
6. From a command prompt, type: iisreset

The MSIZAP switch "T" removes all info for given product code

After uninstall the WSUS 2.0, you can perform the reinstall steps thru the
following document:

Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Started with Microsoft Windows Server Update
Services 2.0 on Windows Small Business Server 2003

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

| Hi!
| Please help, I can't find a solution...
|
| Here’s the situation:
| - System with 2 HDDs (HDD0 & HDD1).
| - SBS 2003 installed to the first partition of HDD0.
| - WSUS(2) database installed to the second partition of HDD0.
| - Using soft-raid mirroring only to the first partition of HDD0 (being
| mirrored to the first partition of the HDD1). Thus, WSUS wasn’t being
| mirrored anywhere!
|
| Due to continuously environmental power problems (about 10 days long),
the
| SBS 2003 disk failed! The BIOS doesn’t even detect the HDD0.
| I switched to the soft-raid mirrored HDD1 and the system (thank God!)
works
| fine except (of course) of the WSUS service. The WSUS database folder is
gone
| for ever!
|
| After the shock I bought a new hard disk and I created a soft-raid
mirrored
| HDD(1), mirroring this time both c: and d: partitions of HDD(0).
| The old mirror (HDD(1)) became the HDD(0) and the new installed disk
| (HDD(1)) is now mirroring the HDD(0).
|
| I tried to uninstall WSUS 2 and re-install it, but the installation is
| failing (I tried 3 times).
