Hey Russ,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have alreay blocked port 80 and currently
running the site off 443. I'm chosing not to host at the moment purely
because I'm using both MSSQL and Windows Media services for development
purposes. I'm constantly modifying tables, databases and media publishing
points via the standard interfaces, SQL management express, Windows Media
Encoder 9 and Visual Studio .Net. It would be, to say the least, a pain in
the arse to host remotely.
Before I say anything else, I just had Chris help me earlier with correctly
setting up IIS and my PDA certificates for exchange access both internal and
external to the network. All is working well until I tried the following as
a next step:
-Closed port 80, exchange worked fine externally
-Re-opened port 80, assigned the public website to port 80 and the default
website to port 81(will not be used basically)
-http://www.mydomain.com.au showed the site on port 80 as desired,
https://mydomain.com.au/exchange brought up OWA as desired.
-PDA had errors synchronising. Switched default site back to port 80(both
blocked and unblocked) and it worked again.
Considering the PDA is using SSL and port 80 is blocked, why does the http
port assignment have an affect? Does port information get put into the
certificate made by CEICW?
I've contacted the company I bought my domain name off and they have said
they do not support my request for adding a host record for a subdomain
name. I think it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'. I was recommened,
by my domain provider, to try out zoneEdit. I registered and found it
supported mail forwarding and subdomain records but it requires me to
transfer my domain to them .Don't want to do that until I'm sure of what I
need to do.
Thanks again.
Andrew
