There are two things to consider:
- If ANY of the users in AD has a PRIMARY email address set up to be
xxx@xxxxxxx then the answer is YES; you do need to add the domain abc.com to
the recipient policy.
- If none of the users has an email address for the domain abc.com in AD
then you don't need to change the reicpient policies.
Also you don't need to set email addresses that correspond to external
mailbxoes being download by POP3 Connector.
That is not mandatory although you may want to do it for some other reason.
However for POP3 connector to work correctly you must check the scenario
that I described in the beggining. Otherwise you may lose mail silently (!)

I agree if it isn't broken don't fix it ! I've learnt that the hard way.
But I want to make sure it is set-up correctly. So to clarify the users
can
receive email OK for the domain abc.com which is setup under their AD
account
as SMTP address.
However we want to receive email as well on different domain like 123.com.
So my question is do I need to add this domain 123.com as a secondary SMTP
address.
Because at the moment I haven't added 123.com as a secondary SMTP address,
but we are receiving email OK ? I'm confused how.

I hope someone can give me some information on the problems I've
experienced.
OK, I recently reloaded SBS2003 SP 2 with Exchange 2003 R2 SBS on our
new
server. I restored the existing data files OK, connected to the
mailboxes
etc.
Now where the problems start. We are downloading our email using the
POP3
connector. For some reason I had a problem where incoming external
was
being lost and not routed to the users mailbox (using pop3 connector).
I
fixed this issue by modifying the SMTP recipient policy for the
recipient
like our domain @123.com (set as primary SMTP).
Now the email appears to be downloading correctly. However we also
want
to
receive and download email from the domain abc.com to the same mailbox.
At the moment, I set-up the POP3 connector to access this pop account
and
download it to the same users mailbox. It works ?!?!?
My question is, do I need to add the other domain abc.com in the
recipient
policy, since I haven't added it but the email is downloading OK.
