Re: "server is not accessible"

Hello Togosam,

Thank you for your update.

The web services are refer to the OWA and RWW and so on. The OWA is the
Outlook Web Access, make you can access Exchange mailbox thru IE. The RWW
is Remote Web Workplace, make you can access SBS and workstation desktop
thru IE. You can access the OWA and RWW from internal clients thru
http://SBSname/exchange/ and http://SBSname/remote/.

I suggest you perform all the steps in my previous reply. If the issue
persists after that, I suggest we try the following steps:

Do you install the Windows server 2003 sp2 on the SBS or backup server? If
yes, please perform the following steps on both of them:

1. Disable the RSS support from the TCP/IP stack by doing the following:

Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These
problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at
your own risk.
To work around this problem, disable Receive Side Scaling when the computer
is configured as an Internet Connection Sharing gateway. To do this, follow
these steps:

a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.

b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

c. On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then type
EnableRSS .

d. Double-click EnableRSS, type 0 , and then click OK.

e. Exit Registry Editor.

2. Disable Offloading support:

a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

c. In the right pane, make sure that the DisableTaskOffload registry entry
exists. If this entry does not exist, follow these steps to add the entry:

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value, and then type
DisableTaskOffload .

d. Double-Click DisableTaskOffload, type 1, and then click OK.

e. Exit Registry Editor.

(Reboot to make both changes effective)

3. Updating the NIC drivers to the latest version resolved the problem. So,
make sure you have the latest version for your Network Card drivers. Most
manufacturers have released updated drivers very recently.

For more information:
You may experience network-related problems after you install Windows
Server 2003 SP2 or the Scalable Networking Pack on a Windows Server
2003-based computer

Best practices and known issues when you install Windows Server 2003
Service Pack 2 on a Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=939421

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. Please logon the problematic workstation with the domain user account
from the good workstation, then access shared folders on SBS. Does the
issue reoccur?

2. Please logon the good workstation with the domain user account from the
problematic workstation, then access shared folders on SBS. Does the issue
reoccur?

3. Please try to create a new domain user account on SBS, and then log it
on one workstation, then access shared folders on SBS. Does the issue
reoccur?

4. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

5. Gather MPS network report on SBS:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| thank you Terence,
|
| I had disconnected the SBS from the network for a week and made the 2nd
| server (Win2003 Standard) the Domain controller. now i reconnected sbs
back
| to network and found these new issues. Also, sbs will be used mainly as
File
| and Data storage and DHCP and whatever services I need to have to get it
| running. my company does not have web pages so I don't know if we need
web
| services.
| A couple of questions: what is OWA and RWW?
| I do have external firewall device connected to SBS and have disabled
DHCP
| on that. please let me know if this info will change anything, else I
will
| go ahead and perform steps you've suggested. Again, thank you for your
help.
