Re: Back up failing

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Yes the other server is behaving....I believe the problem there is
....ummm...errr...user based.

This is the site where the drywall dust was everywhere.....I cant believe
they didnt cover the servers with a tarp.

User was using old...probably badly scratched tapes ..and not marking the
cleaning tape ...so had no idea how may times it was actually used.

I explained the cost of having a full backup verses me coming in and trying
to recover a system not backed up...not including the production down time...

They have new tapes now ;-)

Thanks again for your help Larry.

What a valuable resource this newsgroup is....and has been for me since I
started with SBS 4.0..

Hi Tami:

No one ever said it made any sense. In fact, I think, as do you, just the
reverse.

Keep the cleaning cartridge handy, and get a spare. Methinks your going to
need it.

Are both the errant servers behaving now?

all the suggestions are great guys....

But it is not logical that you shut down a server...replace a tape drive
which is BTW on the MS HCL, with the exact same drive...and the SBS backup
doesnt like it. Nt backup errored out once with the invalid drive
errors...a
cleaning appears to have resolved the issue.

Yesterday I manually backed up using NT backup with the same tape that SBS
backup couldnt find. I test restored.

Last night the SBS back ran...and now is still running.

is this logical???

and on a tape that was previously used by the old backup drive....does
that
make sense to anyone.

What I think is it has to do with the RSM...and by running the backup
manually it fixed itself. I think the RSM became confused when I used the
USB
drive to backup while the tape drive was broken.

Sloppy

what is this RSM for anyway....what is the value of it?

Other then having to clear it out continually when backup start to fail.

Tami

I like tape back up....
