Hello John,
Thank you for your update.
According to your description, you can access www.yahoo.com web site thru
IE but unable to ping it from internal clients.
If this happens on all internal clients, I think this is a ISA server 2004
issue. I suggest you run the CEICW (firewall part) thru the following steps
to configure the ISA to see if it help:
a. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
Standard Management\To Do List.
b. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.
c. When navigating to the Firewall page, select "Enable firewall" and click
Next.
d. On the "Services Configuration" page, select all the items and then
click Next.
e. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, make sure "Allow access to the
entire Web site from the Internet" is selected. If you select "Allow access
to only the following Web site services from the Internet", make sure all
items in the list are selected. Click Next.
f. Go through the remaining steps.
Then, test the ping and the Outlook download images issues again.
Since the Outlook download images issue only happens on one laptop, I
suggest:
1. Do you install any firewall or antivirus software on the laptop? If yes,
please disable or uninstall them and then have a try.
2. Please ensure the laptop joined SBS domain thru connectcomputer wizard
and logon the computer with domain user account.
3. Can you access Internet form this laptop?
4. If the laptop always unable download images in emails, this may be the
Outlook issue. You can try to reinstall the Outlook on this laptop.
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please help to gather the ISA Info:
1) Download the file from the following URL:
http://www.isatools.org/tools/isainfo.zip
2) Extract all files to a folder on ISA server.
3) Double click Isainfo.js. This will generate 2 files
ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.log and ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.xml in the
current folder.
4) Please send these files to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Please also help to gather the ISA logs:
1) Schedule a down time.
2) Open ISA 2004 management console.
3) Expand the server node and highlight 'Monitoring'.
4) In the right pane, switch to the 'Logging' tab, make sure the 'Task
Pane' is showed there.
5) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Firewall Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.
6) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.
7) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Web Proxy Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.
8) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.
9) Click 'Apply' to save changes and update the configuration.
10) Temporarily disable the Firewall service. To do that, please click
Monitoring | Services tab, and then right click 'Microsoft Firewall' to
choose 'Stop'.
11) Clear the current existing W3C logs. To do that, go to the log saving
directory and clean any existing .W3C logs. By default, the logs will be
saved to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISALogs'. (Some MDF may not
be able to deleted, that's normal.) You may backup them first and then
delete them.
12) Go back to the ISA 2004 management console, and then Start the stopped
'Microsoft Firewall' service.
13) Reproduce the problem (ping and Outlook images download issues), stop
the service, and then gather the resulting W3C files to me for analysis.
14) Please also let me know the IP address of the testing clients so that I
can filter the data.
I hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Terence,
|
| I re-did process.First time I got a message that the UPnP router (D-Link
| DIR-130)could not be configured. I clicked OK and re-ran to successful
| comclusion with manual configuration.
|
| I can get internal and external access now. I did find out one issue.
Under
| ISA I cannot ping out to the internet. I use ping www.yahoo.com to verify
| external access and it is now blocked (execept on the server).
|
| I have one client issue. On my laptop, I cannot get images to download in
| outlook client of exchange server. I checked that download images was OK.
| However, on another PC with the same outlook account, I get downloaded
| images. I also tried from another (wife's) PC in her account and the
images
| download OK.
|
| Any idea why this one laptop with ISA firewall on will not download
images
| even though the Options panel says it is OK?
|
| Thanks for sticking with me on this.
