Re: Calendar Only Exchange OR How to use Dynamic Address

Dynamic IP addresses do not work with receiving mail on some ISPs. They would
usually require a static IP that they give on business acounts (just to
charge you more and stop spammers) before Exchange is allowed to authenticate
with the SMTP relays. Receiving email was not an issue as describe by
Lanwench but sending would not work. Been there, done that.

Is there a way to have calendar sharing in Exchange (have people
connected to Exchange but use their own Outlook client to receive
mail)

Yes, but it's a very clunky setup and I don't recommend it. Keep your mail
flow & data centralized.

because our mail on the client level is working great but would
like to add the calendar sharing function. There have been so many
issues with the POP3 connector crashing

Don't use it. POP connectors are a kluge and are not recommended.

and also the 15 minute time
limit to go and get email it would just be better this way. If it is
possible please let me know.

We have considered moving the email over to Exchange completely
(SMTP) but we have a dynamic ip address. I guess it is possible to
use a dynamic but the way to go about it is unclear. Would
appreciate any and all advice. Thanks Matt

The dynamic IP issue is really a non-issue. Sign up with a dynamic DNS host
such as www.dyndns.com - set up a hostname, such as
yourcompany.whateverdomainyoupick.com, and download their 'updater' client
(runs as a service on your windows server) - configure it to use your
username/password & host, so it always keeps
yourcompany.whateverdomainyoupick.com updated with your correct public IP.

Set your domain's MX record to use yourcompany.whateverdomainyoupick.com

Open port 25 inbound in your firewall to your Exchange server's LAN IP

I'm presuming your recipient policy in Exchange is already set up to use
@company.com (or whatever syntax you wish on your domain) - if not, run the
CEICW again before changing your MX record.
