Re: Not enough free space, disk full

On my way, but since the server is a drive away I decided to copy the
contents of disk1 and the R2 disk unto the server, so its kinda not the
fastest thing.
Its so annoying when a new client, the business owner and the accountant
think they knwo anything about servers they want the admin password so they
can log into it. I have not even finished installing this thing and the lousy
accountant is going in there and changing users' passwords and when I had
already set it to prompt them to change it upon login. Sent me on a wild
goose chase when users said they were not prompted. He also went in there and
set up a remote backup solution. When I confronted him he was trying to
excuse himself, I plainly told him there is no excuse why I was not told to
implement these things instead logging into the server hence compromising it
without having a clue what he was doing. He said everyone in the office had
the password to the old server and could log into it, no wonder the old
server had so much issues until it just will no longer complete a boot up. He
also had the audacity to say my guarantee was a joke, and I responded that no
IT admin or company gives any guarantees beyond getting you up and running
(they wanted guarantees for several months that whatever for whatever
happens....freebie). Anything else from that point is paid support.
Guarantees/Warranties are as provided by hardware and software manufacturers
and if anything happens the IT admin has to get paid to troubleshoot and
replace it under warranty assuming they have one, if not the business owner
has to cough up the money and pay for the required components to be replaced.
The business owner also claimed the new server/network is affecting his
Office suite, and I simply explained to him that network/server issues will
affect every user if not then the issue is isolated to that particular user's
computer and has nothing to do with the server/network. Still yet, they keep
arguing, making me go above and beyond our contract to troubleshoot what is
beyond the scope of installation and ithout bing paid for it. At this point,
I really don't care if we continue on this business relationship as I have
never had such a client...penny wise and pound foolish. They also had this
other software that stopped working and they said it is the new
network/server, we called the manufacturer and setup this same software on
two other computers, they worked flawlessly but still won;t work on the other
computer. The manufacturer's tech said; the software works fine, the new
server/network work fine, but the computer just has a problem and hung up.
These same guys could not provide adequate user data to restore for them and
yet want everything restored, they also provided wrong internet connection
information; they said they had a static IP when they did not. Now things
such as RWW and OWA are not as implemented as they should, even the SMTP
connector in Exchange is unable to authenticate to the ISP because there is
no static IP...what a mess. And then they log into the server to do crap. I
have changed the admin password so I complete the installation agreement and
get my balance even though I had also told them the work is no longer
guaranteed due to random compromise by thie lousy accountant. If they stick
with me for support I also made it clear that can only happen if I am allowed
to do my job and nobody will be given permission to log into the server for
any reason whatsoever.
Just had to vent.....aaaaarrrrgh.

Thanx again. Yes, I have R2 standard and I just cracked open the Admin
Guide
I have read quite a while ago that I cannot remember a lot even though I
have
setup the SBS 2003 R2 for other clients without this issue. I am trying to
install File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) which is supposed to be used
for
FOlder quotas and other things. I don't remember ever using FSRM in the
past
and never had this issue. Is this what you are referring to?
Thanx.

Like I said, if you have SBS R2 then you can be more granular in the
quota
settings. Without R2, quotas are applied to the drive only. Otherwise,
you
can increase the quota, or disable the quota for one or all users.
Blue text generally indicates hidden and/or system files.

Thanx for the response. So, how then can one remove the quota from
applying
to the whole disk or partition? I also noticed that when I look in My
Computer the the D: and E: text and stuff look blue instead of blask
liek
the
C: , what might this indicate?
Thanx.

Yes, the quota is applied on a partition basis, so if you have a quota
on
d:
all file the user owns on d: count. Note that with SBS R2, you can
install
the File System Resource Manager, which works differently - quotas can
be
applied right down to the *folder* and *file type* level.

Can It have anything to do with ownership of files?
If a file has a different owner then the user that stores the file
the
limit applies on the owner of the file In that particular file.
Im not sure here but I also think that this quota limit not only
applies
to the share, It applies on that whole disk that has quota enabled.

In addition, since users' My Documents folders are redirected into
the
Users
Shared Folder by default while it applies the 1GB limit to these
folders,
I
think it is messing with the network shared folder which also
resides
in
the
Users Shared Folder. I have compared settings with other SBS
servers I
manage
and cannot find a difference. How do I unapply/remove the 1GB limit
on
the
network shared folder created in the Users Shared Folder?
Thanx.

So, now on an entirely different client's new SBS 2003 server
standard
install, I noticed that on users' computers, when you hover the
pointer
over
the mapped network sahre it displays a size of 1GB when it is
supposed
to be
a 500GB HDD mainly dedicated to User Shares. It seems the 1GB
desktop
redirection limit is being applied to the whole of the network
share
and
as a
user with 99% of used My Documents space tried to save a tiny file
on
the
network share today it simply told her the disk is full. When I
looked
at her
My Documents folder it was indeed full but she could not save in
the
shared
folder as it is telling her the disk is full. This is supposed to
be
the
network share on a 500GB HDD.
Any ideas?
Thanx.

Check their usage and disk quotas (right-click the disk,
properties,
Quota tab, click Quota Entries near the bottom to see all
usage -
you can
double click the user to change their personal limit)

Hello All,
Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem when a
user
is
trying to
save a document into the SBS shared drive and gets and error
that
"not
enough
free space, disk full" when there is abundant capaciity on
the
HDD
on
the
server?
Thanx.
