Have you tried to make your own bks file with folders that you want to back
up? Create a simple batch file with ntbackup command line with options, and
make a schedule task to run daily?

Jim,
Multiple arrays. Thebackupdrive is seperate from the data arrays and is
not raid 5, it is a single drive. The benchmark for the drive is not in
question.

Dedicated hard drive or a partition in the same array as the data?

I am using NTBackup tobackupmy SBS server and since it takes soooo
long to
complete I began watching the logs.....
I have my Exchange logs going to a seperate volume and it is a whopping
2Gb
of data, seems ntbackup requires 8+ hours to back this up.... Any ideas
how I
can improve this?
I also have the SQl databases forsharepointlocated on their own
privarte
volume and ntbackup handles the 33GB of data in 5 hours, which is
reasonable,
I guess.
The other log entries show reasonable performance for the size/type of
files, so I'm sure that there is no problem there.
I want tobackupevery day but with the server needing 23 hours to
complete,
I can't. I am using Microsoft DPM to fill in the gaps so I canbackup
weekly.
Anyone have any suggestions, I don't want to buy more software to run on
this server unless I can show that we are saving something somewhere
else.
The server uses RAID 5 arrays for storage and Ibackupto hard drives in
the
server and in a seconadry server (DPM) so this is not a tape issue or a
network issue.
Thanks in advance.- Hide quoted text -
