Re: Changing IP Address "Loses" RPC Server

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello, thanks for your response.

1 .The server exists two primarily serve up web pages and email for two
sites that require separate ip address (because one needs IMF spam filtering
and the other specifically wants all their spam--don't ask). I wasn't aware
of any other way to do this except as it's configured this way.

I have a third NIC I had been using for the internal network but when I
enable the external NIC's will stop receiving internet traffic after a
certain amount of time. When I keep it disabled all had been well.

Certainly open to modifying this if this isn't the best way to accomplish
the goal of being able to host two internet sites with distinct public ip
addresses.

2. What would be the correct way to configure the subnets? One at
255.255.255.0 and what?

Thanks!

1) Why are you running your server's internal network in public IP space?
2) You have both NICs configured for the same subnet, an incorrect
condition.

I have to ask how you have this, your workstations, and your internet
connection physically set. It should be:

Internet
|
|
Router (optional but highly desirable)
|
|
SBS External NIC (see Note1)
SBS Internal NIC (Private subnet)
|
|
Network Switch
|
|
Workstations

Note1: this may be either a public or private subnet, depends on router
config. In fact _everyone_ has a router between them and the internet, the
idea here though is that the router is under your control, rather than your
ISP's.

Sure, here's the ipconfig /all results although I will say I've tried all
sorts of variations from this set up which used to work with the old ip's.
gpupdate /force always produces the same RPC not available error in Event

I have been running a SBS 2003 SP2 server quite happily for 2 1/2
years but recently had to move it to a new location. As part of this,
I had to change the IP address for the server but after using the
"Change Server IP" tool I have a problem with the RPC server not
being available. If I restart the server Exchange won't start which
is obviously a major problem. I've been banging my head against this
for a couple weeks now and read countless web postings but none seem
to apply or help to my scenario. I can't understand why changing the
ip would cause such problems. If I change the NIC back to the old ip
settings the computer doesn't have the error but of course can't
connect to the internet. I've run through all the DNS settings in the
DNS management console and everything's pointing to new ip info. Is
there some other AD DNS settings I can't find? Is there anyway to
fully purge or reset the domain's old IP info? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from your server.
