I'm going back to my office which is also remote from the server,
where I have a spare Notebook which I'll try setting up.

Q: Are you doing all this reconfiguration at the office or at a remote
location?

If you are at the office the Initial configuration should work and when you
get to the part with configuring the laptop for RPC/Http you should do It
offsite your company network (a.k.a a home network).
