Re: SBS multiple local subnets... routing ?

Well the result will be a single subnet and a server with 3 disabled NIC's. I played also with the network teaming, but it seemed to fail miserably. (it created a new teamed NIC, but the 2 NIC's it was teamed froms till showed aswell)
Why is SBS so useless at being a router ? I thought it was a simple task really.

Lets focus on the problem here :-)
Art, pls update this thread when you have purchased a switch so we can see the result.

On this hand, or "the other hand".

router... ah well. Guess I'll have to get a 100Mb switch then, the
one I have right now is only 10Mb and the NAS device chokes on it.
Don't ask why I bothered with an old 10Mb switch the story is too
long.
Ah, but now you've made it so tempting to ask!
A regular Ethernet switch is not a substitute for a router, either, remember - apples to oranges. :-)

ex-lease) and because its out in the garage (cause its that noisey!)
and the internet connection is in the house theres a single cat5
cable between. In the garage I also have a workbench/wireless &
laserprinter, and I want to have 1 subnet for my office and 1 for
the garage. Can the SBS act as a router between the 2?
At the moment the laserprinter is on the garage subnet and I can
print to it as a shared printer from the server, but cannot directly
talk to it via it's IP.
Thanks

Ye gods and little fishes, two NICs in a domain controller is quite
bad enough....I maintain you should use that only if you're using
ISA and have no choice. Multihomed DCs are Very Bad News.
You should get a router for this, and disable the extra NICs.
Windows does not a good router make.
That said, you should also explain why you want different *subnets*.
I can't see why you'd need this configuration in a tiny home
network! You should be able to have a single, flat network
...connect everything to a single switch, put everything on the same
subnet, and go to town.
