Hi,

I have recently just setup a trial of SBS 2003. I am currently testing it on
my home machine, before convincing the boss to go ahead and buy sbs2003.

I currently do not have any client pcs to test on, the other 3 at home are
in use, so can only use my machine with sbs2003 loaded onto it.

Before i begin with the questions:
Currently, the business is networked (1Gbps) with a peer to peer shared
network drive on one of the desktops (5 desktops in total).
The email solution at the moment is a shared .pst over outlook 2003 (so only
one at a time can use it), which uses ISP's email account.

So here come the questions:

1. Is it possible to have a contacts/addresses/calendar shared between all
email accounts in the business? So every account is using the same, even when
adding/deleting contacts etc...

Yes, use a public folder for this. If you configure the Outlook address book settings correctly, this can be really useful, including that you can insert addresses in Word docs, etc.

2. Outlook web access will be very useful for us. Is there a way to get the
contacts/calendar etc... showing in the default "contacts/calendar places
etc..", without it being in the public folders? For example, my boss is not
very technical minded, so keeping it the same would be more friendly, i.e.
clicking contacts brings up all the shared contacts, and not confusing him
with public folders.

Unfortunately, while IMO using the public folder is best for a number of reasons, you do have to click the separate link when using OWA. I'm not aware of any way to do what you're seeking here.

3. Is it possible to archive emails older than 1 month into a shared folder
from all email accounts?
At the moment, we archive emails into a archive pst, then sort them into the
right project numbers, so its easier to search.
Doing the same, but with multiple emails, would be very useful.

There are several ways to do something like this, and I'm sure you'll find one that works for you. You may not be aware that using PST files over a network is unsupported, and there are strong recommendations against doing so. Aside from network traffic issues, it's easy to get data corruption as PSTs were not designed to be used this way.

4. Fax service, does it require any additional providers? At the moment, its
just a fax machine over voip line. so unplugging the rj11 into a server
fax/dialup modem should carry on working?

Yes, Fax will just work with a modem, Brooktrout card, or whatever.

5. Can the server be put into low power (standby etc..) without loss of
incoming emails. I.e. because the internet domain is pointed direct to the
server, if the server is in standby etc.., does this mean the incoming emails
are lost?
The best option would be having the server enter low power mode 9pm to 7am,
but keep receiving emails.

No, the server needs to run at full power all the time. I leave the monitor off when it's not in use, but other than that, you have to disable all the power saving.

6. Thinking out loud... is it possible to use Wake on LAN (WOL) to power up
client PC's for remote access?

Yes, it's possible. There's a WOL add-in for Remote Web Workplace. See http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2007/07/03/we-now-have-remote-power-workplace.aspx

Any help, is highly apprenticed.

Regards
Solway
