oHi Terence,
Thanks for your quick reply! I will try and find someone with a Vista
Business or XP Pro laptop and do a test from my home, to see if this indeed
solves the problem.
Your suggestion however does not quite explain the context of the problem,
because I always try to access the same folder on the file server
(\\fileserver\main\) and sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. I
checked the settings and this folder is not shared for 'everyone' (nor is any
other folder, for that matter). But anyways, I'll do the check and if that
doesn't work, I'll get back to you. ;-)
Thanks again!

Dear Stephan,.
Thank you for your update.
I'm not sure why the Vista Home client could access the file server
sometime. One possible reason is that: some shared folder on the file
server allow Everyone to access. If you add Everyone to the Sharing
permission and Security permission of the shared folder properties, the
folder will be allow anonymous access. Then, the Vista Home could access
the folder without problem.
However, allow anonymous access is not safe for your file server. So, I
strangely suggest you replace the Vista Home with Vista Business or XP Pro.
Then, you can access the shared folder from client with domain user account.
Hope that help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Dear Terence,
|
| Thank you for your answers. You understood the situation correctly.
|
| I have now removed the other IP address from the fileserver and rebooted
it.
| It worked today, while still on Windows Vista Home, but as I said it DID
work
| sometimes before. And it ALWAYS works when I log in over VPN on my office
| network (same network as the SBS and file server are in).
|
| So I'm not sure is Vista Home is to 'blame', it seems illogical that it
| would work sometimes, under the same circumstances.... And would the
error
| message on the fileserver "there are currently no logon servers
available"
| appear when you try to logon without a proper domain?
|
| What do you think?
|
| Cheers,
|
| Stephan Roijers
