Server login hangs

Something strange just happened with my fully patched SBS2003 SP2 Premium
server.
I went to login to the locked console and after I entered the password the
screen went black, then painted the desktop color and hung at that point.
Waited a while and no change, so I tried to RDP into the server and the RDP
connection did the same thing - hangs after the desktop color is painted.
Strange thing is the server is working fine (I can remote manage it), no
issues in the logs, no high CPU/disk activity seen, no services stopped -
all clients are happy.
Anyway of finding out what is up so I can login to reboot it?
It would be nice if I could see a task list or something but I'm not sure
how to do that if I can't login.
Thanks.
