Yes, that is a good idea. I was hoping to avoid a bunch of scripting though
and find a solution to the actual problem. But I will keep that in mind.

Does anybody have any idea why this is the case and if it can be sped
up at
all?

Yah... don't backup across the network. Through another drive on your
Server, or use USB removable drives.

They're cheap.
