Re: Cannot connect through ISA Server to www.microsoft.com, but can connect via IP address

When filtering on the IP address of the workstation, the only events that appear in the ISA monitoring log are:

Log Time: 2/18/2008 15:22:44
Log Record Type: Firewall
Protocal: HTTP Proxy
Action: Initiated Connection
Rule: blank- no rule identified

Log Time: 2/18/2008 15:23:49
Log Record Type: Web Proxy Filter
Protocal: http
Action: Failed Connection Attempt
Rule: SBS Microsoft Update Sites Access Rule
Destination Host Name: www.microsoft.com
Bytes Sent: 4102
Bytes Received: 4027

As another test, I tried using SSL, browsing to https://www.microsoft.com. That succeeded, but slowly, and with some errors in the ISA log. But the page eventually appeared complete.

I have a Sonicwall hardware firewall as the Internet router, so I don't lose much protection.

I would have to disagree with this. I have 3 different sites that use SonicWALL appliances and I would not rely on them alone, even with the killer extra subscription fees you have to pay to get event basic content filtering, etc.

Did you get a chance to run the logs to see what rule is actually firing when you access microsoft.com?

Joe
