You are probably right.

I think the assumption of 4 and 5 is that BES was installed on a server
that also had Outlook installed. Therefore Outlook would have to be
removed, BES stopped, Exchange Admin Tools removed, etc.

I agree with 1 and 2. I would not do step 3. I would also search that
there is a MAPI32 version 6.5.7638.1. You should see that in the
Exchsrvr/bin folder and in system32.
ESM has to be on the box for BES to install. So the order of 4 and 5
doesn't make sense to me.
I would skip this and run the install. Make sure you prepare your box
with regard to creating a user and assigning the proper permissions. From
my experience it will bite you further down the road if you try to skip
the extra user bit and try installing BES with under the domain admin.

Thanks. Here's what they say:
1.. Remove Microsoft Outlook using Add or Remove Programs.
2.. Search for and remove any MAPI32.dll files with file versions of
1.0.2536.0.
3.. Remove the Microsoft Exchange System Tools, if installed.
4.. Restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
5.. Install Microsoft Exchange System Tools.
Just as happy not to have to remove/reinstall Exchange System Tools, but
it seems pretty clear to me that this is whay they want.

Gary,
They are talking about the MAPI not the EMS. That makes sense as
Outlook is a MAPI client - so is OE which I use on all my SBS installs
with BES on it. As part of the BES install you do configure the MAPI
client. I would assume that if you first uninstall Outlook and then
install BES you should be able to configure the MAPI client during the
installation.

Gary,
AFAIK uninstalling Outlook doesn't remove anything from the Exchange
Admin Tools. I'm not sure why RIM would have that in their
instructions. I have done quite a few BES installations on SBS boxes
and I haven't come across it.
I agree with Jim, you would not have to reapply SP2 if you do
reinstall the tools.

Claus,
I am aware that Outlook on SBS is unsupported. I am aware that I
need to uninstall it. The Exchange Admin Tools are on the server.
The BES instructions say to remove Outlook and reinstall then
Exchange Admin Tools.
My question are,
What is the procedure for reinstalling Exchage Admin Tools?
Must Exchange SP2 be reinstalled after reinstalling Exchange
Admin Tools?
Does Exchange SP2 reinstall Exchange Admin Tools?

Hi,
I've just taken over maintenance of an SBS2K3/SP2/Premium server
and have been asked to install Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES)
software on it. The server came with Outlook 2003 installed. This
is an unsupported configuration, and the docs for BES direct that
Outlook should be removed and Exchange Admin Tools be reinstalled.
What's the proper procedure for reinstalling Exchange Admin Tools
on SBS2K3 Premium?
I assume I will then need reapply Exchange SP2.
I suppose it's too much to hope that simply uninstalling Outlook
and then re-applying Exchange SP2 will repair/reinstall Exchange
Admin Tools?
