Re: RDP Problems

I have gone through the troubleshooting with no success, except when I use
the client's IP address. Using the IP address RDP works.

I have sent you an email with the requested information. Thanks!

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that the SBS server cannot RDP to the clients.

The issue can be complex. The troubleshooting may be time-consuming. Your
time and cooperation will be appreciated.

I suggest you try following steps to narrow down the cause of the issue:

Clean boot on both the server and the client:
====================
1. Click Start and Click Run, and in the "Open" line, type in "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks) and click OK.
2. Under the Service tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services", and then
click "Disable All" button. In this way, we can disable all the services
which belong to third-party programs.
3. Under the Startup tab, click "Disable All" button.

4. Click OK.
5. Choose Yes to restart the computer.
6. Check "Don't show this message or launch the system configuration
utility when Windows starts".
7. Please check if the issue persists.

NOTE: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back to
Normal Mode after we finish the steps.

If the problem still occurs, please help me gather following information:

1. If you try to input the IP address of the client to RDP to the client,
what is the result?
2. Is ISA server installed on the server?
3. Does RWW work properly?
4. Is Windows 2003 SP2 installed on the server?
5. What is the version of terminal client installed on the server?
6. GP result
========
On both the server and the problematic clients, type the following command
in command prompt, and then press ENTER:
"gpresult -Z > C:\gpresult_z.txt" (without the quotation marks)

This creates a list of the implemented policies on the machine in the
following text file: C:\gpresult_z.txt. Please send this file to
v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

7. Please help me capture screenshots of all the error messages you
received and send to v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

To capture the image, we can perform the steps below:

(a) When the error message appears, press the Print Screen key several
times (this key is located to the right of the F12 key on the keyboard)
(b) Open Paint ['start' => 'All Programs' => 'Accessories' => 'Paint'].
(c) Click Edit (menu) -> Paste or press Ctrl + V.
(d) Click File (menu) -> Save. Save it as a .jpg or .gif file and send it
to me as an attachment.

8. Please download the MPS Report tool from the following link and run it
on both the SBS server and the XP client, reproduce the issue and then send
the generated CAB file to my mailbox v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for further
investigation so that we can find what the root cause is:

concern, please feel free to let me know.
