Re: NetDiag Error

There is nothing in the WINS management console its empty.

I ran netdiag becuase I am getting an error on my SBS email log every
night:
SceSrv - Notification of policy change from LSA/SAM has been retried
and failed. Error 4312 to save policy change for account
S-1-5-21-3769329115-1898564211-818944753-3018 in the default GPOs. For
more debugging information, please look security\logs\scepol.log under
Windows root

I did some search under error 4312 and some people ran netdiag and
other utils. This used to come back tested fine and now errors

This help?

Well it's another piece of info, but it also indicates there's something
bigger going on.

To get a better and bigger picture, I'd suggest downloading, installing, and
running the SBS Best Practices Analyzer. It's a great tool to have on hand
anyway and a good place to start TS from.

(watch out for line wrap on above link)

You might also want to install the Windows 2003 support tools for your SBS
server service pack ( Which one by the way?). Then run;

Dcdiag /c /v and post the results.

I think I've asked before, but does this problem remain after restarting the
SBS server?

I believe this is a WINS records (00H, 03H, 20H) missing from the
WINS database, not a misconfiguration of the interface.

Probably easiest to open the WINS management console and look the
registered records for the SBS server.
( I remember 4 as typical, but netdiag is only complaing about three
missing)

Were you running netdiag attempting to troubleshoot some problem,
issue, or symptom?

I'd be inclined to examine the event logs looking for the cause of
this record registration failure, check the overall health of the
WINS service, double check my current backups, and plan a reboot.
Then check it again.

I am running 1 Nic and I am having the Cisco PIX hand out IP's. But
it has been like this for a few months now. Any other ideas?

Oh, NetDiag error.. I guess I need to read the subject line more
often. Sorry.

Do you have a WINS server on your network (The SBS perhaps?) Check
to see if DHCP is properly issuing WINS data.

Please post a copy of ipconfig/all from that computer.

I am getting this error
[WARNING] At least one of the <00> 'WorkStation Service', <03>
'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names is missing.
[WARNING] You don't have a single interface with the <00>
'WorkStation Service', <03> 'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS'

Anyone know why?
