I've got the nic for the upper disabled because they are not using it.
However, when I added it back, it was set to receive an IP dynamically. It
appears as if at some point, they were using this to get an IP from their
ISP. But, this was before my time doing anything with them, so I don't
really know exactly what the deal was.
Do you want me to still do an ipconfig on it?

Hi James:
It might help to know the ip of the second adapter. Attach it to something
and run the command again.
If you issue the command this way:
ipconfig /all > c:\iptest.txt
you can copy and paste the results into a post here.

Bindings look OK. I did a print screen from ipconfig. Here it is:

Thanks a lot for the help.

Can you please post an ipconfig/all from the box?
Also, did you check the bindings on the NICs?

OK, here is an update on where things stand:
It seems as if the first errors are DNS 5782, 5775 & 5774. I have done
some
research and still no dice.
I also cannot repair the connection- getting an error on clearing arp
cache.
However, if I do an arp -a, the arp cache is totally empty. This looks
really suspect to me, as my understanding would say if that's empty,
I've
got
no shot communicating with other nodes. Any idea why that would be?

Yesterday, a client told me he thought there was some type of file
corruption
on his SBS 2003server, so I did a chkdsk at startup- pretty routine.
However, since that chkdsk, theserverhas been totallyoffline. The
clients can see/access/ping each other but can't get to theserverand
the
servercan't ping any clients. There were absolutely no changes to
the
network setup; the chkdsk was the only thing I did.
After that, I tried redoing the IP stack, then doing a repair install
of
Windows. No luck there. I also tried switching the IP address,
checking
different cables, ports, etc. No luck.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
James,
We need to see why you can not communicate to other devices.
Things to do,
Try another nic,
or
If you have some type of Live CD ( that you can run that will load the
Nic drivers. (make sure it is a "Run from CD" and not to install
anything to the hard drive)
Likehttp://www.ubcd4win.com/orhttp://www.knoppix.net/orhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD
This way you can make 100% sure that the hardware is ok.
Try to ping around your network while in the LiveCD session
Run a constant ping for about 20min to other devices.
I have seen NIC's go bad. If you have 2 nics, test both.
At that point, you can rule out the hardware then look to more extreme
trouble shooting on the windows install.
You said someone else was in theserver, what did they do while logged
in? If they mentioned they saw corruption, how did they come to that
conclusion?

I am the original poster BTW; I just was having trouble getting in
through the web, so I am using my Google account instead.
Thanks for all of the help. I tried a new nic and sure enough, it
worked. It was certainly a duh moment for me, as I used to teach a
networking theory class where the first thing you always check is the
hardware.
Thanks to all for the help!
