Re: Help! w/ Upgrade-Installation problems with OMA/ActiveSync and

Yes, you use the IP of your PIX.

What second default website? I hope you are not planning of hosting a public
website on your SBS. Bad idea with lots of security risks.

DSL Modem --> PIX(FW) --> SWITCH --> SBS2K3SVR.
10.10.1.1 is our gateway address, use the same as asked for Local IP
Address
of router?
Am I misinterpreting the summary doc from CEICW re: dhcp and dns settings
then. If so that would be a relieif and I can get on to my ActiveSync
second
default website issue.

*thx so far... will be back tomorrow morning

How is your setup?

DSL Modem - Router - switch with local LAN?
Is the router 10.10.1.1?

If so, you select "direct broadband connection" and enter the 10.10.1.1
as
the IP. As to the ISP DNS servers, they will be added to the forwarders
under the SBS DNS forwarder tab.

Thx - Yes on the ethernet and the 1nic. We have multiple IPs for
internal
and
external resources well documented so I'm not totally in the dark if it
goes
south on me (btw am not the architect - just the end user relaying what
I
think I know through existing documentation).

The CEICW Router Connection screen picks up my ISPs preferred and
alternate
DNS server addresses I assume from the DSL modem. When I enter the
internal
address of the DSL Modem in in the Local IP Address of router field I
get
a
message from CEICW that says:

"The IP address specified for the local IP address of router is not
within
the same address space (subnet) as the IP address and subnet mask
specified
for the network adapter. This will result in connectivity problems. Are
you
sure.... etc..."

This is true, I abruptly cancel out of this process and hope for some
insight. What is this for? Why does it want an association made there?
What
can I put in there to move forward in the CEICW without creating a
different
problem to chase later? We aren't using and haven't used whatever this
is
for
to my knowledge. My sense is to avoid clutter firstmost while getting
the
most out of these new server features that we can.

"Claus" wrote:

I assume the second set is from a workstation, even though it says
"Ethernet
adapter Server Local Area Connection"?!

I also assume that you have a 1NIC setup - right? If that's right,
your
configuration looks good.

I'm not sure about your comment on the automatic pickup of the router
IP.
As
to the basic firewall and the rest of the configuration that the CEICW
will
do for you, it is needed in order to give you the correct SBS
functionality
(OWA, RWW etc.). As Les pointed out, if you want to use those
functions,
you
need to complete the CEICW.

(a little less naked - thanks claus)

What got my attention was the Wizard's Router Connection Screen not
picking
up a default Local IP address of the Router. I may be being a little
dense
but can't locate that information anywhere in the administrative
tools
either. Don't want to populate it incorrectly since I don't can't
seem
to
find where to change it back.

In scanning the CEICW summary I was'nt comfortable with changes that
relate
to enabling a Basic Firewall, since we have a device handling that
role
already, and a particular line in the summary that says
CEICWQ"disable
the
option to automatically assign IP addresses by using the DHCP
allocator
because DHCP is provided by your server's DHCP server." Being
paranoid?
Maybe. (also if it's worth noting - I've got a seperate host record
for
my
owa users to point to = mymobile.domain.org)

Ok. Do you want the ipconfig kitchen sink with unaltered machine
names
and
everything? (this is my first post here)

The CEICW isn't wrong, you may not be either - but generally you
have
to
capitulate if you want SBS to work well.

Thanks for the feedback and SBS Analyser info Les.
Can you give me some information on how to defend/preserve
my
existing
network configuration while running the CEICW? When I
cancelled
out
of
the
CEICW initially and looked at the summary it appeared CEICW
wants
to
make
some changes to DNS and DHCP that I am not comfortable with
and
they
are
currently solid (their settings don't seem to fit under the
basic
multiple
choice menus at the beginning of the wizard). The wizard is
not
picking up
these existing settings, and I don't really want to play
with
them
if
I there
is a better way. Thanks! -b
