Re: Backup job fails to complete and SQLServer hangs

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I'm not too sure about that. Did you look at the link? Do you have DBs set
to FULL?

Sorry Claus

I had another look at the server and you are partly correct :-)

Some of the db files listed in the log I posted are on D:\MSSQL but some
(the non-production inbuilt db files) are indeed kept in C:\Program
files\SQL
Server.....

So it seems to me that it doesn't matter if I use the exclude tag in the
backup directions, the db files will get locked anyway. does have anything
to
do with the way VSS is used to first take a snapshot of the db files
(wherever they are) and then NtBackup backs up that snapshot if it is
required to backup those files? I seem to recall reading something along
those lines. That even excluding the file locations did not stop the
Shadow
Copy Service from taking a snapshot of the db files?

The log file you posted says otherwise. There is a known issue if any of
those databases mentioned in your log file uses the FULL recovery
database
model instead of the SIMPLE one. Have a look at this for additional info.

Hi Claus

Yes, I recently moved the db files to the D: drive to free up space on
C:

Without a doubt the actual db files are on d:\mssql

Cheers

Are you sure you excluded all of them? Did you check under the SQL
program
files on the C drive?
