Re: Backing up MDBDATA folder *and* ExchangeIS

Ok, I take back the "flexible" term (not sure what I meant actually, too
early ;-)). For our situation USB HD's work a lot better and give me 8
weeks back if need be (never needed that however - I have found that volume
shadow copies have completely supplanted using older backups for us). I
also store system images on an offsite USB HD which allows quick disaster
recovery for us.

I completely agree that tape backups are better for some of the more
"strict" backup policies but I haven't missed our old overflowing tape drive
one bit...

I have since moved away from tape to USB HD's and
haven't looked back - much more flexible...

I believe the statement should read larger capacity at a cheaper cost,
unless having to comply with SOX audits that require a 40 device backup
set.

In many cases, my customers require the ability to restore from 2 weeks,
with each day being off-site except for the day they are using. 14 USB
drives is more expensive than tape and certainly not more "flexible".

If all you want is a simple, multiple backup to a couple devices, then
USB Drives can be cheaper, but they are not more flexible from my
perspective.
