Re: Complete DNS removal and re-install?

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hello Holz,

Thank you for posting here. Let's also thank Charlie and Claus for the
input.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to run CEICW
and connectcomputer wizard and get error. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

First, I want to let you know that: in SBS environment, we need to run
wizards for almost of time. If we can configure some thru wizard, we never
manually configure it.

We need run Add User Wizard and Set Up Computer Wizard to create domain
user account and computer account on SBS. Then, join the client computer to
SBS domain thru connectcomputer wizard. Do not join client to SBS domain
thru My Computer properties. The connectcomputer wizard will add the domain
user account to client local administrators group automatically.

From the connectcomputer error, I think this is client side DNS setting
issue. Please ensure the client computer's NIC DNS setting is pointing to
SBS internal IP address. Then, try to run connectcomputer again.

The CEICW is very important for SBS. We need to make it work first.

Claus's troubleshooting thought is very good. We need ipconfig outcome of
SBS and client, and gather CEICW log to narrow down this issue.

1. Gather CEICW log: icwlog.txt file in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Windows Small Business Server\Support" folder

2. Please capture screenshots on the error messages when you run CEICW and
send the pictures to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. Run command "ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig_sbs.txt" and "route print >
c:\route_sbs.txt" on SBS, send the files c:\ipconfig_sbs.txt and
c:\route_sbs.txt to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

4. Run command "ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig_client.txt" and "route print >
c:\route_client.txt" on problematic client, send the files
c:\ipconfig_client.txt and c:\route_client.txt to me at
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

5. Please capture screenshots on the error messages when you run
connectcomputer and send the pictures to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Yes, that did the trick, which is quite sad. I thought that reinstall
