This message is necessarily long. Please be patient.
Wintel Machines (Both)
Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server
Latest Patches and Service Packs for all applications
Intranet, Monitoring, Exchange
No other custom/3rd party applications
I had a server (name ServerA) that was our exclusive server running the
above mentioned apps. After some time I noticed that I could no longer see
the users in SBSUsers OU. I installed another server and promoted it to a dc
hoping that would help; it did not.
* I decided to take the existing server (ServerA) offline (unplugged from
network) and build a new server (named ServerB) with the same domain name.
* I installed all the components ServerA had including the intranet.
* I was unable to get to companyweb on ServerB after installation. I
uninstalled and reinstalled following the steps outlined here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829114. I noticed that upon reinstallation
there was not a Config database created. I used stsadm to create a config
database (stsadm -o setconfigdb -databaseserver ServerB\sharepoint). This
was successful.
* I tried to extend companyweb from the html admin pages and was
unsuccessful. The “OK” button would not do any noticeable actions. I was,
however, very successful in extending the website via the cmd line (stsadm -o
extendvs -url http://companyweb:80 -ownserlogin domain\administrator
-owneremail someone@xxxxxxxxxxxxx). Proof that it was successful was by
going to the url and getting the option to select a template.
* I detactched the databases created on ServerB and attached the ones from
ServerA using steps outlined in "SBS_MoveDataFolders.doc" downloaded from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/6/11671e4d-fb21-489c-870f-db36fd21a7d2/SBS_MoveDataFolders.DOC.
*I followed the steps for disaster recovery outlined in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827701. I get through Sharepoint Services
from companyweb, removing the virtual server witout deleting the databases.
* At this point I get the message "The virtual server that is referenced
here is not in the config database."
* Here is my problem, I cannot extend the Companyweb virtual server and map
to another virtual server. Again when I click on the "OK" button nothing
happens. Also I have tried to extend it from the cmd line using stsadm and
get this message "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not
exist or access denied. (Error code: 17)"
I am unable to continue and I have not been able to find any information
about this message under my circumstances. Please advise.
