Re: Email attachments fom one user can not be opened on SBS server

Hi Joe:

That is a strange pattern.

What happens if you first save the attachment to the local hard drive. Can
it be opened then?

What error is presented when you try to open the attachment.

Is the same program and version that created the attachment available on the
system that receives it and cannot open it?

Any errors in the event logs on the problematic work station?

When the email and attachment are sent to you, then forwarded to the
problematic workstations, do you first open them? If you don't does it make
any difference?

White list / black list software on the problematic workstation? Outlook
rules?

Last but not least, have you considered exorcism for the problematic
workstation? :-)

The following is rather confusing, but I have tried to give all the
details I
could.

I have one user whose email ATTACHMENTS from her home computer can not be
opened on two different SBS compters. Two other SBS servers have no
trouble
opening her email attachments. The email is always delivered. One anomally
to
this equation is a .txt file will open OK.

If her email is sent to me, then I forward it to the SBS server it opens
OK.

She has no trouble with any other users (friends with home email acounts)
opening her mail attachments.

It is not a virus. Three of the servers have the same version of symantec
AV
and one opens it OK. All three of these servers pop their email from
network
solutions and they also use Symantec.

You can open the attachment OK, at the mailbox at network solutions BEFORE
it is poped into the SBS server. If you forward it to an outside email
acount
from the SBS account the attachment can not be opened. The server appears
to
do someting to the document.

There are 25 other accounts on this server that have no problem.

Two of us have been working on this for weeks. We are stumped! Help would
be
appreciated.
