Yes, sounds like a VPN missing on the new router config.
My 2 cents to help clear up your confusing DNS problem, they are using
their own SBS server as primary DNS so they can use their own name
table. Not that uncommon really.
To correct your overall problem I would try to get the router config
from the remote side. Also 192.168. is not routable so you would have
to setup custom routes for that to work. You say you can login to the
domain but it sounds like you are logging in to a roaming profile and
not actually using a path to the domain controller. Maybe that is
adding to your confusion.
