Re: Stop EA errors

I would remove the card (assuming an onboard one available) ... why need
such a fancy card for a server ?... ;-)

3 yrs a graphics card can fail...

We have a 3 year old SBS 2003 Premium SP2 whitebox server - all patches.
The server has been running fine for years but recently it has been
generating a BSOD stop EA event every few days and rebooting:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Description:
Error code 100000ea, parameter1 8a2da7a0, parameter2 8a40e620, parameter3
b724dcec, parameter4 00000010.

I sent the info to Windows Error Reporting and got back:

Problem caused by ATI Graphics Driver
This problem was caused by ATI Graphics Driver. This program was created
by ATI Technologies, Inc.. ATI Technologies, Inc. does not currently have
a solution for the problem that you reported.

-------------------

I'm not sure why this would be showing up now, I haven't upgraded the
graphics driver since the box was installed (just used the one that
Windows auto-detected for the ATI X300SE). I suppose it could be a
conflict with a recent patch but none of the December ones seemed to be
related to the display. Nothing else has been done to the box recently -
just patches.

I was going to update the driver but find ATI does not have a driver for
Server 2003 for any cards (apparently MS does those drivers?), just XP
drivers which I could use (so I'm told) but am hesitant. Didn't find
anything on Windows Update either.

I was thinking of going back to the standard Windows VGA driver using
KB325341 as we don't need advanced graphics (all video acceleration is
turned off BTW).

If this doesn't work I suppose it could be the video card itself, can
anyone suggest a basic PCI Express video card which is supported for
server 2003? (I have no PCI slots available otherwise I'd use an old PCI
one)

Thanks.
