I used to have Symatec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.0.1 loaded on my SBS
2003, but it used to make the system restart at the most unfortunate times.

First step might be to look into a later build of SAV.

Can I load an antivirus client on it without any problems? If not can I
scan it from a workstation? I would like it to keep virus, mal-ware, etc off
our Exchange Server from the server end in addition to our client side.

Your server and Exchange should have real-time protection. So this is
not a good solution. Actually, I don't think SAV 10.x is a good
solution these days anymore. You still get definition updates.
However, SAV falls short on protecting against malware, spyware,
trojans or whatever you call it, which might be a much larger problem
than viruses. In addition SAV does not include a centralized managed
host-based for the clients.

It you -- like me -- are comfortable with Symantec products, you
should look into Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 MR1 (maintenance
release 1). Be sure it's the latest build, the initial one is quite
buggy.

Here 's a good white paper - best practices

10.0.x versions are rock stable as far as I can tell. Version 10.1.x
cause us no end of problems. Version 10.2.x also causes no end to
problems for us.

Having worked with Norton / Symantec Corporate Edition since the NT4
days, some issues were not related to whether SAV was rock-stable or
nor, but to driver conflicts.

The strangest experience was while at HP most of our DL360
blue-screened with SAV. It turned out to be a conflict between
firmware and SAV driver.

You might want to look in other areas or for conflicts with something
you should not have installed on your server.

Agree.
