Re: Can no longer send/receive external email.

First, from your workstation, try to telnet to your exchange server:

open a cmd prompt:

telnet "servername" or "serverip" 25

if that doesn't work, your exchange is not listing. Look at your event
logs, open ESM and turn up all logging. Post back with event errors,
including event id, source and enough of the description that we can get a
sense of the meaning.

if that does work, then from outside your LAN, preferably from outside your
building, try to telnet to the exchange server.

telnet "mail-servername" or "serverip" 25

where "mail-servername" is the name registered with your ISP for your mail
server.

Thanks, Buddy. I called Comcast today, and they claim no changes to their
configuration, including blocking port 25. Can you point me to some tips
on
how to debug why I can't send or receive? Thanks in advance.

If you can't send or recieve, I would call comcast. They have probably
put a
block on port 25 traffic to your cable modem. Perhaps a system on your
network has become a spam bot.

I hope somebody can help me with this. After running SBS2003
successfully
for three years, my email server no longer sends or receives email
successfully. I have not made any changes to the configuration,
although
my
Internet (via comcast) has not been the most reliable historically. (I
CAN
browse the internet from my LAN.)
I've run the CEICW many times (8-10) using different options, and
nothing
is
resulting in the email working. On the internal network (10.7.6.x), I
can
telnet to port 25 on the server (10.7.6.1), and can send an receive
email
internally, but cannot telnet to port 25 on the external WAN interface
(imconsortium.com) or send/receive email externally.
I have a very vanilla installation - I have a server with two NICs, one
goes
to my Comcast modem (WAN) and one goes to my internal network (LAN).
After spending about eight hours on this, everything in SBS, System
Manager
and RRAS looks correct to me - I'm out of ideas. Can anyone suggest
how I
should proceed?

Thank you,
Terrence
