Re: No profile data

When I create a new user it works fine, although I have to solve the .v2
issue. But there is enough information on the net.
For a number of existing users I still have an issue: even when I remove the
profile data from the server and from the vista box, the vista box creates a
temporary profile at logon time. How can I get rid of this issue ?
"Leon N" wrote:
Yesterday evening I created a new user. When I used this user via the XP.
notebook I saw a profile was created according to the settings in SBS
(\\dcname\profiles$\%username%). When I used the same user with the Vista
machine, it was not able to use the current profile data, but it created a
seperate one, called \\dcname\profiles$\%username%.v2
At the server I was not able to view the .v2 profile, because administrator
was not owner of it. Although I changed the policy to allow Administrators to
access these profiles...
At the vista box, I see that the new user is mentioned under "Users", but no
more with suffix "TEMP". So it really improves.
The issue is now more focused on how it is possible to have two profiles!!
And how to avoid! The next is to view the content of those profiles.

The time should be the same. Did you try to sync manually with the SBS?
Do you still have the profile issue?

No time problems; the time of the Vista box and the SBS 2003 server are
within two minutes.
There were no errors during rejoin. And I can logon with the old users
again.

did you check the local time on the Vista box? Did you get any errors

At least for the XP notebook this works!
The Vista machine doesn't.
Although I hardly have any error message, the profiles are not
synchronised
with the server. It seems the Vista notebook has a time-sync problem
(129)
and 2 User Profile Service warnings (1515 and 1511). And the profile is
not
taken from the server. It is a new user I created for this test. At
another
workstation I can opdate the profile (e.g. favorites)

As a test, I would disjoin the XP notebook from the domain (don't
forget
to
test a login with the local admin before you do this), add it to a
temp
workgroup and the rejoin it with ConnectComputer. See if that fixes
the
issue.

There were more entries missing in the policies folder. I restored
and
repaired them. In the beginning this gave a lot of errors at server
side,
but
this is now totally clean. No messages anymore.
At the client-side, the Vista machine, it also changed a bit. Now,
when
I
logon with a newly created user, I receive the message 1515 (Source
User
Profile Service), 1511 (same source) and 1058 (Group Policy). The
latter
with
the addition that the {90FE4...}\gpt.ini cannot be parsed.
Additional 1: when I click on the hyperlink in the error message it
shows
the content of the gpi.ini file
Additional 2: on a desktop running XP I open the command line and
enter
"\\domain.local\netlogon\". It indicates that it misses
configuration
parameters. (this XP desktop really works fine in the domain).
When I do the same at the XP notebook and the Vista notebook they
respond
that the path cannot be found. Typical difference!
Hope you can help me with this information.

You should have the 31B2....
When you did a search, did you remember to check "hidden" as well
under
the
advanced options?
Did you look at the suggestions in the links that I provided?

Indeed the 1058 was refering to a userenv source. Sorry I forgot.
I looked at the document linked to below and focussed at the part
copied
in:
"The following comments are applicable to this event with "Access
denied"
as
error code for the {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9} group
policy
(Default for a domain) on a Windows 2003, SP1 domain controller:
- Verifying the actual GPT.INI file revelead that it was not
recently
updated"
I scanned my C:\drive for any gpt.ini file, but it was not found
in
this
{31B2...} entry, but only gpt.ini's were found in the
{D8C95858-7291-4463-ACEO...) entry. Seems not okay to me.
Next to that I used the GPO to look for the policies; when I try
to
access
the "Group Policy Objects", "Clientcomputer for Small Business
Server"
the
system responds that this file does not exist. Is that normal ?

Here is a link to the 1058 error. In general, the number alone
doesn't
tell
us much. We need to know at least the source and even better the
details.
In
case of your 1058 I assumed that the source is Userenv.

Claus,
At about the same time the 5703 occurs, there is also a
1058-error,
which
indicates group-policy problems. Perhaps there is a strong
relationship?

Yes, I patched the SBS server with the actions mentioned
in
KB
926505 .
Currently I have no problems signing in from desktops,
but
also
my
other
notebook, which runs XP Pro has similar issues. I also
use
login
scripts
to
assign netword devices at logon time. They also are not
executed
on
the
notebooks with XP and Vista.
In the logging I find a Netlogon 5703 errror which
indicates a
path
error.
Hopefully this refers to the path for the profile or
scripts.
Does anyone know the search process of a Vista machine
for
the
profile
data ?
"Claus" wrote:

to
prepare

Vista?

I use an SBS 2003 instance with 5 workstations. In
some
cases I
do
not
get
the profile data from the server to my workstation.
Especially now, when I am installing a new
workstation
with
Vista
Business
I
experience this problem.
Any ideas to solve this ?
