Re: Basic Server System Questions

Good points from everyone....

I am planning to use the system for house use. I have the software and
figured I might as well use it.

What is the purpose of using RAID? Is SATA the same thing?

Good day,

I am looking at putting a server in my house network. I have the
follwing software:

1. MS Small Business Server 2003
2. MS Office Comm Server 2003
3. MS Office Comm Server 2007
4. Windows Server 2008 64-bit Beta
5. MS Forefront Client Client Security
6. MS Exchange Server Standard 2007

What I am hoping to do is have the other computes in the house (wired
and wireless) go through the server for security, updates, and office
data (calendars, contacts, etc) shared.

The question is will something like a HP Pavilion S3220N Slimline
Desktop PC with Dual 64 X2 Dual-Core do what I am looking to do.

Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

MS SBS 2003 is the product for you, I'd say. It's got tons of wizards
to help you get it set up properly - comes with Exchange & remote
access stuff. I'm a big fan for a small/home office.

help.
I want to thank the person who suggested I use this group.

Why, you're most welcome. :-)

Want about the hardware to run this system?

It's hard to answer specific hardware questions without knowing about your
expected usage (or budget) - but my minimum specs for a business would
involve 3GB RAM, hardware RAID (SAS or SCSI) with plenty of space - a
system volume of at least 20GB and a lot for data, external media for
backup (either tape or multiple USB drives), and good hardware firewall
appliance (I don't use ISA or two NICs in my domain controllers).
