Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you get error "The Recycle
Bin on \\SERVERNAME\Users\USER\My Documents\My Music is corrupted. Do you
want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" when you join Vista clients
to SBS domain. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate
to let me know.

Based on my research, I think this issue caused by the Vista Recycle Bin
had a number of unknown files n folders in it and the Security Permissions
Were not right on it. I found a same issue in window 2000 and XP:

Error Message: The Recycle Bin on C:\ Is Corrupt or Invalid. Do You Want to
Empty the Recycle Bin for this...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297760

Now, we do not have hotfix for this issue on Vista.

I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

1. Ensure you join the Vista client to SBS domain thru connectcomputer
wizard.

2. Ensure you had installed the following hotfix on SBS 2003:

Windows Small Business Server 2003: Windows Vista and Outlook 2007
compatibility update
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=926505

3. Logon Vista with local administrator, and empty the Recycle Bin of Vista.

4. Reset the Security Permission on Recycle Bin to Default:

a. Please open Computer on Vista, click Organize button at the left top
b. Select Folder and Search Options
c. Select View tab, uncheck "Hide protected operation system files" option,
click OK
d. Locate on C:\, right click $Recycle.Bin folder, select properties
e. Select Security tab, ensure SYSTEM and Administrators groups in the
list, and all have Full control permission.
f. Click OK

Then, test this issue.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. Does this issue happen on all Vista clients or individual Vista client?

2. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. Which steps you get the error in when you join Vista to SBS domain?

4. Do you get any related event error on the Vista client?

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
