Re: Backups Failing with error code 0X80070458

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I doubt if
Unable to detect tape drive or tape media.
GetTapeMediaPoolName failed. (0x80070458)
GetBackupDestination failed. (0x80070458)
has something to do with cleaning a tape.

I would recommend updating or reinstalling the tape drive. You might also
consider doing your backups to USB drives. With the cost and reliability it
seems that a lot of people in this group are preferring this solution.

Hi,

What backup drive are u using?
Is It in need of a head-cleaning maybe?
Try a cleaning tape and then retry again. Ive seen posts in other forums
regrding SBS servers that dont run backup because of the need for cleaning
the backup drive.

Hi All

I know this issue has been covered many times so please excuse me if
someone has already answered but I am desperate for a resolution

Backup ended at Monday, January 07, 2008 7:00 PM
Backup error finished with error code 0X80070458.

If I go into Libraries & try to access the drive I receive the error
"Unable to read from or write to the database, there is a problem with
the Removable Storage Service. please restart the service"

Then this following error

"The object identifier does not represent a valid object. This snapin's
display may be inconsistent with the Removable Storage Service, please
restart the snapin

I have restarted the services & continue to receive the same error

After some searching I found a possible fix from MS

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841187

I applied this but still experience the same problems.

I have changed media, cleaned drive but to no avail

The only other information I could locate relating to this problem was to
"rebuild the RSM Database", does anyone think that this is the cause &
possible resolution??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Paul
