Stuart.

turn it off (or permanetly disconnect it) then use metadata cleanup to
remove the 'remnants'.

See the other response I just sent-you can't have 2 SBS on like that
after the 7 day grace period. The shutdown behavior you see is
expected.

This is being "Demoted" to remove server1 from the Domain
Controller list in
ADS.

At the moment, both the new & Old box are fighting and the old box
shuts down after 90 minuites. I want to keep the old server ONLINE
for a period of
1 month so that any files which are missing can be retieved through
new shares, then it will be turned OFF, and reused as a workstation.

The only reason that the machine has to remain ON, is that I provide
support
to this company through remote access, therefore switching on the
server as
and when needed is NOT an option.

Kind Regards

Hello There.

I have a SBS 2003 (Svr1) which is an OLD box.
I have a SBS 2003 (Svr3) which is an NEW box.

I can not "Demote" svr1 to become a member server, as it gives the
following
error message....

...
A Domain Controller could not be contacted for the domain xxx that
contained
an account for the computer.

Make the computer a member of a workgroup then rejoin the domain
before retrying the promotion.

"The Specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted" ...

Both Old and New servers are fully working, operating and can ping
between
each other.

Any suggestions?

Stuart.
