Re: VPN disconnection

Hi Robert

Thank you very much for all your attention.
I have disabled the router firewall on the client side (including DDOS
detection) and for three days I haven't experienced any disconnection.

If problems appear again I will proceed as you indicated - plug a crossover
cable directly from my computer to the external nic of the server - and I
will then make a new post on the newsgroup with the results.

As things stand now, it seems it was due to the firewall on the client side.
The clients have a Draytek 2700 adsl router.

Once again thank you very much to you and Manfred for all your attention.
Best regards
Pedro R.

Hi Pedro,

Thanks for your reply.

Please take a cross over cable and attach the laptop directly to the
server's external NIC (not to the router) and try to create to create VPN
connection to see if the issue can be reproduced. In this way we can
narrow
down if the problem is caused by the server itself.

Note: I assume your network topology is as the following:

{Internet}---{Router}----{SBS Server}----{Client Workstation}

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

<> <<>> <> | Hi
<> <<>> <> |
<> <<>> <> | We have SBS 2003 R2 Premium with another Windows 2003 R2
Server
<> as
<> <a
<> <<>> <> member
<> <<>> <> | server (additional domain controller).
<> <<>> <> |
<> <<>> <> | We have been experiencing problems where, at certain times of

<> <<>> day,
<> <<>> <> the
<> <<>> <> | VPN connetion from clients keeps disconnecting. Sometimes
<> seconds
<> <<>> after
<> <<>> <> we
<> <<>> <> | connect the connection is lost again.
<> <<>> <> | The symptoms for the disconnection are:
<> <<>> <> | - We see the requests being sent (the LOCAL computer
shows
<> <<>> network
<> <<>> <> | activity, sending to the VPN) but there apperas to be no
answer
<> <from
<> <<>> the
<> <<>> <> | server. After a while the connection is lost.
<> <<>> <> |
<> <<>> <> | Can you please point me out some clues on what might be

<> <this
<> <<>> or
<> <<>> <> what
<> <<>> <> | should I do to troubleshoot the problem?
